Visual Style

The texture, size, profile, orientation (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) of boards and the natural appearance or addition of colour offers infinite design flexibility and encourages innovation.

BS1186:3 1990 is the current British Standard dealing with cladding. The standard defines several profiles and their sizes. Although still current, the British Standard has been largely superseded by current design practice, manufacturing developments and in-service experience. The result is a more extensive choice of profiles and sizes.

Specification notes:
  1. There is a wide choice of standard profiles available in softwoods , modified woods and hardwoods up to 145mm in width. Styles can vary from one manufacturer to another so always obtain samples and agree quality parameters prior to confirming your selection.
  2. Thickness:
    Thickness is largely determined by the profile required. The typical thicknesses recommended are:

  3. Bespoke manufacture:
    If you require a bespoke profile or a specific species then contact a member of the TDCA for a quotation. Only specify cladding manufactured under a recognised quality scheme such as the TDCA CladMark/ISO09001.
